Siri - Not So Much 'As Seen on TV'

If you've seen any iPhone 4s commercial you've seen how amazing Siri is. Supposedly.
Aside from having a hard time with hebrew/yiddish names, there are some basic things that don't work as fluidly as shown on TV....

here's a recent conversation, not involving any foreign languages. My brother in law was on his way to a hockey game and texted me to look up an address on my phone. I happened to be driving, so i asked Siri for some help....

Siri: How can i help you?
Me: What's the address for Nassau Coliseum?
Siri: I'm sorry, I can't find Nassau Coliseum.

okay, let's try this in a round about way.....

Siri: How can i help you?
Me: Where do the New York Islanders play?
Siri: Ok

*iPod starts to play*

So last night i had a dream, and i thought a man standing in front of me was my grandfather.
He turned around, and while he looked a lot like my grandfather, i realized it wasn't him and figured it was his brother, so in my head (in the dream)
I was like "oh, it's Uncle Y." and Uncle Y. smiled at me.

Over Chanukah a cousin told me that Uncle Y. was sick, and not doing so well. I hadn't heard anything since then (family tends to leave me out of general updates, but especially sad news). I wasn't close with Uncle Y. or anything, and hadn't seen him in a really long time.


Uncle Y. was definitely a random and unexpected person to turn up in my dreams. I know the subconcious is a strange thing, but he wasn't on my mind for any reason, and like i said, i hadn't heard any updates on his condition since Chanukah.

I just found out that Uncle Y. passed away today.

tumblr-weeds

remember in the early days of websites, people would add flying gifs and other objects to their pages? you could give the visitor's mouse a trail of stars, or letters that spelled out a word or phrase if it sat long enough. snowflakes would rain from the top of the page...

apparently when society decided all those effects were just plain annoying, the effects didn't go to die.... they went to tumblr.

i must be too old to "get" tumblr, but once in a while i'll be sent a link to a page from there. trying to figure out who tumbled what, and what's a re-tumbl, (or the correct tumblr-terminology) gives me a headache. but when i click into a page with those wonderful Y2K effects, that's when i X-out in frustration, with a migraine.

A weight-loss commercial just came on the radio:

"attention all women with a muffin top"

i immediately started paying attention.
not because of weight loss, but because i heard the word muffin.

It took way too long to finally send in the transcripts and cash, but now I'm now FINALLY the Rbtzn with a B.A.!!

Seeing as m2 is on the road, buying g-d knows what sort of animal parts, I'm sitting here in pajamas celebrating with a slurpee and episodes of Disney shows on Netflix.... Can i get some sympathy/well wishes?!

I've Got Gadgets and Gizmos A Plenty...

The holiday season landed me with some extra cash in my pocket. Which went straight into the bank. To pay the bills.

M2 says to spend it on something fun.

Having heat is fun. And a roof over our heads. And groceries.

Plus it's not enough for new hair ;)
